Review in a sentence: One of my new absolute favorites, with such amazing Characters living in a surreal world between immortality and bringing the death
Book:
Author: Neal Shusterman
Goodreads Review: 4.32 (April 2021)
Pages: 435
Genre: Fantasy/ Utopia
A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery. Humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.
Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.
World:
The perfect world, literally. Everyone has the perfect job, perfect family and has to worry about nothing, but in a perfect world nobody dies even if it's mandatory. That's why Scythe exists, and mysterious society, who's job is it to kill. This world made me think about what's really important life, if it's even counts if it never ends.
Characters:
Citra and Rowan are amazing, how much they are going through so much, but still stay these friendly and good persons, living everyday with death and trying to do it right. Thinking about these ethic questions. Also the romance is so pure and lovely.
Plot:
I thought it was just a battle for the ring, which would be already amazing, but we get so much more, the battles with the death, loss of important persons and plot twist I still can't handle.
Writing:
I think this style couldn't fit better with this book, it was exactly on the point for every romantic gesture, every death, every plot twist, every friendship, it would fit perfectly, but please I love quotes throw them at me in every page please
